Aldergrove remembers

A sunny, albeit blustery day greeted the hundreds upon hundreds who came to pay their respects at the Aldergrove cenotaph for Remembrance Day.

Langley Township firefighters hoisted a massive Maple Leaf Flag between two ladder trucks on Fraser Highway, a backdrop to the ceremonies at the Aldergrove Legion.

The Fraser Blues performed a perfectly timed flypast, arriving in the skies over the Legion as the Last Post sounded, and returning to add emotional punctuation to the two minutes of silence held in memory of the fallen.

Added to the list of Legionnaires who passed away over the past year – those “who do not answer” – were the names of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent and Corporal Nathan Cirillo, soldiers killed on Canadian soil, victims of attacks in Montreal and at the nation’s capital in recent weeks.

The ceremony concluded with laying of a host of commemorative wreaths at the cenotaph.
