A young robbery victim put up a big fight in downtown Aldergrove on Wednesday.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Holly Marks said that in the afternoon of February 15, Langley RCMP received a report of a fight in the middle of the road in the 27200-block of 32 Avenue.

Police attended and determined the youth suspect had approached a male sitting in the mall in the 3100-block of 272 Street and attempted to grab his Sony tablet. The thief was accompanied by a second male, who was wearing a black and blue hoody.

The tablet owner held tight and the two struggled over the item, however, the thief was able to gain control of the tablet and ran away on foot. Not willing to easily part with his tablet, the owner gave chase.

When the victim came close, the male in the hoody sprayed the tablet owner in the face with pepper spray.

The victim took hold of the youth who had the tablet and the two struggled in the street until the original complainant returned to assist him so the suspect could be held until police arrived.

Unfortunately, the male in the hoody made off with the tablet and has not been identified.

The Crown Prosecutor has approved a charge of robbery for a 17-year-old Langley youth.

Witnesses to the incident remained at the scene and provided statements to police, which were extremely helpful in charge approval, said Marks.
