A fake gun from the school drama department briefly caused a lockdown at Aldergrove Community Secondary Tuesday morning, Langley RCMP say.

A young man thought to be a student posted a photo of himself on Snapchat holding what appeared to be a gun in a school hallway.

Police arrived at 9:14 a.m. and monitored all entrances to the school. The building was kept on lockdown, including an Abbotsford South polling place, until the student was found and taken into custody 14 minutes later.

The gun turned out to be a prop, said Cpl. Holly Largy, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

Police were still on scene Tuesday morning, and it wasn’t determined yet if there will be any criminal charges recommended.
