The SPCA is looking for help with 57 animals seized from a Cloverdale-area property.
BC SPCA special constables removed 35 dogs, 16 horses, and six cats from the property Tuesday and took them into care. An animal cruelty investigation is still ongoing.
The animals were in various stages of severe malnutrition and were being kept in sub-standard living conditions, the animal welfare agency said.
They didn’t have proper access to water, food, or shelter, the SPCA said, and horses were suffering from chipped, cracked, and overgrown hooves.
The agency is now asking for donations to help care for the animals, and for people who could provide them future homes.
“Whenever we have a large seizure of animals it puts added strain on our financial and staff resources,” said Marcie Moriarty, chief prevention and enforcement officer.
The dogs have been transferred to the Vancovuer SPCA shelter and will be distributed to various Lower Mainland SPCA shelters this week after their initial examinations.
