The weather almost upended the 87th annual Bradner Flower Show on Saturday, April 11.
Every year, flower fanciers come to the Bradner Hall to see a wide variety – at least 400 varieties – of daffodils.
But this year, unseasonably warm weather saw daffodils blooming up to a month earlier than normal.
“We had to hold them back in refrigerators to have them on display here today,†said Pauline Isherwood.
Isherwood’s grandfather Fenwick Fatkin was a founder of the show, and Isherwood herself is a co-chair of the present day festival. It brings together blooms from several local growers, along with live music, crafts, plant sales and vendors, and flower sales for donations to the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre.
Both sides of Bradner Road were lined with cars as people stopped by to peruse the blooms all weekend.
“We just came to look, but who knows?†said Peter Mathiasen, when asked if he would be buying anything. It was the first visit for his wife Barbara Mathiasen.
