Langley Advance Times is offering this weekly feature, call it “At Your Service.”
It’s a forum in which to put questions to our local politicians about key issues facing our community and its residents.
Using a basic question-and-answer format, elected officials will be asked one question at a time and given the opportunity to respond (to a maximum of 250 words) on that said issue.
Alternating between elected groups, Langley City and Langley Township councils, Langley School Board, Langley MLAs, and Langley MPs each have a chance to participate.
The answers provided will be published in their entirety online each Sunday.

Langley City councillors are being asked: Will the City be switching to the same residential waste bin system used by neighbouring municipalities such as the Langley Township and Surrey?

A. We are currently in a contract with a waste removal company, so I don’t believe this is something that will be considered until that contract is completed. I am sure, however, that this is a topic we will be discussing in the future.

Councillor Rosemary Wallace
A. Langley City will remain with the same contract service, Emterra who collects single-family residential garbage and green waste.
City council had requested a waste audit be conducted in the downtown area to come up with a better system for reducing waste. The three-way receptacles currently in place are not working.
As we move into the future it is important to set up a system that can collect dog waste separately… it was the largest waste found from the audit.
The Langley City environmental task committee is focused on educating the public on the importance of waste reduction by creating posters, information sessions and through events held in the City.
As we move forward it is important to look at a circular economy and the responsibility, we all play in reducing waste and protecting the environment – now and for future generations.
