Blair Whitmarsh 20 Q for Langley Township (expanded only)

1. Should a new OCP allow increased density in Brookswood and Fernridge?

Yes. The management of new population growth is one of the primary issues facing the Township of Langley now and over the next 20-25 years.  It is crucial that we have OCP’s that strategically and intelligently accommodate the expected growth.  It is critical that we create a new OCP for Brookswood and Fernridge that manages growth at the same time as protecting the environment, property values, and quality of life.  This will only come through effective public consulation, expert opinion, and a Township Council capable of balancing the needs of the community.  Increased population brings many services and benefits to a community but we must be careful that we manage that growth in a sustainable way.

3. Does the Township do enough to help ensure there are enough schools in developing areas?

Yes/No. Councillors must be willing to listen to residents, to lead in advancing solutions, and to lobby the School Board and the Province to assist with schools.

4. Would you vote in favour of a tax increase?

Yes - If needed and in line with inflation.

8. Should a tree protection bylaw be applied to the entire Township?

Yes - but only if there must be a tree bylaw.

9. Should developers be required to provide more low-income housing in the Township?

No - cannot require developers to build a certain style of housing.

13. Should the Township commit to building the Aldergrove rec centre and pool regardless of land sales?

No - There must be a solid economic plan for building the Aldergrove Recreation Centre

14. Should the Township ensure that roads, sidewalks, and crosswalks are in place prior to the completion of new developments?

No- would be ideal but unrealistic in some situations.  Certainly it makes sense to have as much infrastructure in place upon completion of a development but that is not always possible.

15. Is the Township doing enough to protect agricultural land?

Yes - adequate but it can always be improved.

18. Should more firefighters be hired, even if it means a tax increase?

Yes/No - I am committed to a strategy that increases the number of firefighters in Langley within a fiscally responsible budget.

19. Should more RCMP officers be hired, even if it means a tax increase?

Yes/No - I am committed to a strategy that increases the number of firefighters in Langley within a fiscally responsible budget.

20. Do you believe Langley Township and City should be amalgamated into one municipality?

No - Things seem good at the present time and amalgamation requires both parties to desire and agree to amalgamation.
