RCMP are trying to track down the driver who struck an 11-year-old boy in the 19500 block of 72 Avenue on Tuesday, close to the Langley-Surrey border.
Around 5:30 p.m., the boy was clipped by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Marks said the boy suffered a mild concussion and cuts and bruises, and is recovering at home. He was hit with such force, there was broken glass and car part fragments left behind at the scene, said one witness.
Several people stayed at the scene to help the boy and give information. The vehicle involved may be a brown sedan, but other witnesses suggested it might be silver. It could be either a Honda or an Acura.
That area of Clayton Heights has seen an explosion of high density housing. In some areas there are no sidewalks or proper lighting. The road, 72 Avenue, is a busy thoroughfare.
Marks said the boy was rollerblading with a friend. Neither were wearing helmets and it was dark. They did not cross the road at an intersection, although there are no crosswalks between 192 and 200 Streets.
In April, a 19-year-old woman was struck in a hit and run crash in the 19700 block of 72 Avenue. The driver left her lying on the side of the road crying for help.
Her boyfriend was walking home and heard her cries, saw that it was his girlfriend and called 911.
She suffered serious injuries. The driver was never found. Police continue to investigate.
