Township crews work on repairing a burst water main on 200 Street Wednesday that caused morning rush hour traffic backups.

A 16-inch water main ruptured on 200 Street near 92A Avenue around midnight Tuesday (Aug. 11).

The pressure forced the pavement upwards until the water burst through.

Crews shut down water service to the area and excavated the site.

An emergency road closure was ordered northbound on 200 Street from 92A Avenue to 202A Street, causing traffic congestion for commuters using Golden Ears Bridge during the morning rush hour.

The Township estimated water service would be restored by early in the afternoon and 200 Street reopened shortly afterwards.
