Fire investigators have been unable to determine the cause of a Saturday morning (May 20) fire that completely destroyed a large sales tent and its contents outside The BRICK store in Langley.

Township of Langley Assistant Fire Chief Dale Steeple said the blaze, at #400, 20020 Willowbrook Drive, was initially reported at 2:11 a.m. as a miscellaneous fire, then upgraded to a structure fire, and additional units were dispatched.

Crew arrived to find a 40X40-foot tent and contents “fully involved” in the parking lot.

It took four fire vehicles and 15 firefighters an hour to extinguish. No injuries were reported.

“The tent and all contents were completely destroyed,” Steeple told the Langley Advance Times.

Steeple reported heat from the fire also caused damage to the front of the building and an “electric kiosk,” forcing a power shutdown that closed the store for a day.

Steeple said fire investigators have gone over the scene, but cannot say what caused the fire.

On Sunday, a few burnt scraps of the tent could be seen piled up to one side of a taped-off section of the store parking lot, which has suffered extensive charring.

According to online ads, it was the final weekend of the store’s tent sale, which offered discounts on furniture an appliances.

Langley Advance Times has reached out to The BRICK for comment.
