City charges Downtown Langley Business Association with promoting local tourism

Municipality left Tourism Langley in June, citing ‘uncertainty’ about the organization

The City of Langley has selected a new service provider to promote tourism opportunities in the community.

On Wednesday afternoon the City announced it has selected the Downtown Langley Business Association to fill that role.

In late June, the City stepped away from Tourism Langley, which had previously provided services for both the City and the Township, noting at the time that the move was prompted by the uncertainty surrounding the organization.

“After consulting with City tourism accommodation service providers, Langley City Council concluded that it was in the best interest of the City’s tourism sector to select a new service provider,” the municipality announced in a press release on Wednesday.

A request for proposals (RFP) was posted on BC Bid and Langley City Council selected the Downtown Langley Business Association (DLBA) as the service provider.

“Langley City Council is delighted to partner with the Downtown Langley Business Association to provide tourism services on behalf of Langley City,” said mayor Ted Schaffer.

“The DLBA has been a positive force for the City and I look forward in seeing that carry over into tourism services.”

“This is an exciting opportunity for the Downtown Langley Business Association,” said DLBA chair Carole Ward .

“We expect there to be great synergy having the business sector and tourism sector work together under the same umbrella, and we are looking forward to what the future brings with this first-of-its-kind partnership.”
