City of Langley seeks input on master plan

Municipality begins the process of updating its parks, recreation and culture master plan

City of Langley residents are invited to weigh in on the future of the municipality’s public spaces and facilities.

The City is updating its parks, recreation and culture master plan after having completed many of the recommendations from the 2005 plan.

The study team will analyze and make recommendations on all aspects of parks, recreation and culture in the municipality. This includes parkland, trails, sports fields, community and recreation centres, pools, public fitness centres, recreation and sports programs, cultural programs and events, and many more activities and amenities.

All City residents are encouraged to provide input so the plan will reflect community interests and preferences. There will be multiple opportunities for participation.

The first is a statistically valid survey that is being sent to 2,000 randomly selected households. Households that receive a letter in the mail inviting participation are encouraged to respond. They will have the option of completing the survey on the Internet, through the mail, or on the telephone.

Other opportunities for participation will take place in January, 2013.

There will be workshops for the public and for specific interest groups. If you would like to participate in a community or focus group workshop, call the Recreation, Culture and Community Services department at 604-514-2865 or masterplan@langleycity.ca.

Consultants working on the contract include Catherine Berris Associates Inc., Points of View Research and Consulting Ltd., Gary Young and Associates, Cornerstone Planning Group and Lizette Parsons Bell & Associates.

Information gathered during the study, which will be completed by the summer of 2013, will be made available at  city.langley.bc.ca.
