One passenger is dead and two others suffered non-life threatening injuries after their vehicle lost control and rolled off the Coquihalla highway near Hope.

At around 5 p.m. Sunday a vehicle carrying three people lost control, left the roadway and rolled, the RCMP stated. The single-vehicle crash between Shylock Rd. and Caroline Mine Rd. closed the highway completely for two and a half hours as police gathered evidence.

“One of the passengers was ejected and died as a result. Injuries to the driver and second passenger are believed to be non-life threatening,” Cst. Mike Halskov with the RCMP E Division Traffic Services stated in a news release Monday.

Three ambulances were dispatched to the scene around 5 p.m. An air ambulance was also dispatched but recalled as it was not needed, spokesperson Kevin Sauve with the BC Emergency Health Services told Black Press Sunday.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, Halskov stated.

The RCMP’s Fraser Valley Traffic Services are investigating the crash with the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service.

Police are asking witnesses who drove past the accident scene before emergency services arrived to contact Fraser Valley Traffic Services at 604-702-4039 and quote file 2018-22119.
