Crime Round Up: Sawed off shotgun seized by RCMP

A sawed-off shotgun was found when Langley Mounties searched a Glover Road house for drugs earlier this month.

On April 9, police executed a search warrant in the 5800 block of Glover, said Cpl. Holly Largy, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

Police believed the occupants were dealing drugs from the house, Largy said.

Police seized the shotgun, ammunition, drugs suspected to be methamphetamines, cocaine, ecstasy and steroids, almost $1,000 in cash, stolen property, and stolen mail.

A 27-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were arrested, and police will recommend charges be laid, Largy said.

“Any location engaged in this type of alleged operation is of concern to us,” said Supt. Murray Power, head of the Langley RCMP. “While we are pleased with this investigation, we do encourage calls to the police to pass along any locations where drug trafficking is a concern or suspicion.”

Purse snatching

A woman walking her Yorkie on Douglas Crescent on the afternoon of March 30 was the victim of a purse snatching.

Two young men on skateboards came up behind the woman and started talking to her about her dog, said Largy. The 18- or 19-year-olds seemed friendly at first, but one of them grabbed the purse and they took off in the direction from which they had come.

Largy said the boys are Caucasian, with short, dark brown hair. Both were wearing blue jeans.

Hit and run

A Langley man woke up on March 23 to find his Smart Car had been smashed in the night.

The car had been parallel parked on the street in the 4500 block of 221A Street, facing north.

It was found in a driveway, facing south, with the entire back driver’s side of the vehicle smashed and the rear window shattered.

The wife of the car’s owner reported hearing a loud bang at about 2 a.m. but didn’t go out to see what it was.

Debris suggests a Ford Explorer or Ford Ranger pickup may have been the offending vehicle, said Largy. The vehicle may have had a lift kit or a bush bumper, and may have been used for off roading, as there was a significant amount of mud found on the street with the crash debris.

Big box theft

A man allegedly entered a North Langley store and stole more than $10,000 worth of electronics on April 12. He is described as in his mid-30s between 5’6” and 5’8” with a stocky build, and had tattoos on both arms. He left in a metallic grey 2004-2010 Mazda RX-8.
