Cyclist caught with copper

Not wearing a helmet led to a Langley cyclist being arrested in North Vancouver.

Not wearing a helmet while cycling landed a Langley thief in jail in North Vancouver. He was caught with 85 pounds (40 kg) of stolen copper wire on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

The 35-year-old man was stopped by an officer on bike patrol. The officer noticed freshly- cut copper pipe sticking out of the man’s backpack and duffle bags. The man had no logical explanation for being in possession of the copper, so he was arrested.

The cyclist, who provided police a false name, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

The accused remains in custody and will return to court on Sept. 27, to face to charges of possession of stolen property, break in tools, obstruction of justice and breaching conditions.
