Cyclist dies after struck by pick-up truck during B.C. race

Central Saanich Police say they responded to the incident at the intersection of Central Saanich Road and Tanner Road, shortly after 10 a.m.

A cyclist participating in the 9th annual Tripleshot Cross Fondo bicycle race was killed after being struck by a pick-up truck on Sunday (Oct. 20).

Central Saanich Police say they responded to the incident at the intersection of Central Saanich Road and Tanner Road shortly after 10 a.m.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services and staff at the Victoria General Hospital, the female cyclist, who was in her 40s, died from her injuries.

According to police, the driver of the pick-up truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, which is ongoing. Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor in the accident.

"The Central Saanich Police Service would like to offer their condolences to the family along with thanks to people in the area that rushed to her aid," said the police in a news release.
