A raid in the 6900 block of 207th Street in Langley last week netted cash, drugs, guns, and cellphones that Chilliwack Mounties are tying back to an alleged Fraser Valley dial-a-dope ring.
The local raid, which happened on Nov. 2, was the second by the Chilliwack Crime Reduction Unit. They joined up with the Langley drug squad and arrested five men, seized what's believed to be heroin, methamphetamine, about $12,000 in cash, cellphones, and handguns, explained Cpl. Mike Rail, the spokesperson for the RCMP's Upper Fraser Valley regional detachment.
"Evidence collected during the lengthy investigation led RCMP to addresses in Abbotsford and Langley," he explained.
The local raid followed another on Oct. 27, of a home in the 34000 block of King Road in Abbotsford. There, four men were arrested, and police seized what is believed to be cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cellphones, and about $20,000 in cash.
In both cases, the men were later released from police custody.
Police will be submitting all circumstances of the investigation in a report to the federal Crown counsel for assessment, with suggestions that a few charges can be laid under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act, including trafficking of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking. They're also recommending Criminal Code charges for possession of property obtained by crime and weapons offences, Rail explained.
“The reduction of organized crime remains a RCMP priority and in this instance a sophisticated, multi-jurisdictional dial-a-dope ring has been disbanded by police resulting in the removal of drugs and weapons from the streets of communities in the Fraser Valley,” he said.
