Dave Stark 20 Q for Langley Township (expanded only)

2. Should Township council act to slow down development of Willoughby?

Yes. I have never seen such a poor example of a local government paying no attention to the people side of development. They either don’t know how to plan a community, or choose not to pay attention to what the needs of children and families are when looking forward. There is NO excuse either way. Slow down Willoughby, vote in a new council, and re-group by moving back to a people/community-centered planning process. Then, and only then can the Township even consider consulting with Brookswood residents.

3. Does the Township do enough to help ensure there are enough schools in developing areas?

No. We see too many excuses from our council about why they do not do more to ensure schools, children, and families are more of a priority when developing neighbourhoods like Willoughby. Voting record of this council, and “kaos” that is happening in Willoughby shows poor planning, and a lack of political will, and respect for people that would ensure that greater services are in place when the thousands of new residents arrive. I was part of a truly collaborative relationship in Vancouver between the School District and the City. It takes work to develop this type of relationship, and our current council has taken the easy way out.

4. Would you vote in favour of a tax increase?

No. Stay to rate of inflation

9. Should developers be required to provide more low-income housing in the Township?

Yes. Developers need to be asked by council to make Community Amenity Contributions (CAC’s) like most other municipalities. These funds go towards supporting the people/social side of development. Typically, they will be “new” dollars that help fund, schools, recreation, fire services, libraries, and some accessible housing.

13. Should the Township commit to building the Aldergrove Recreation Centre and pool regardless of land sales?

Yes. Aldergrove residents have been under-served by this council due to: 1) Poor representation by councillors who live in Aldergrove; and 2) Poor planning and visioning by this council. Reactive, and piecemeal plans to sell off prime property/green-space is a clear example of this ridiculous approach.

15. Is the Township doing enough to protect agricultural land?

No. Majority of this council has started to believe, and repeat all the excuses necessary to pull valuable land from the ALR. “You can’t farm on it anyway. We have so much of it. This is just a one-time decision.” It has become more, and more acceptable to minimize the significance of farmland. I am the only candidate who has declared ZERO TOLERANCE to removing any land from the ALR. I make this bold, and definitive statement because our farmland is too important for future generations. All other candidates, including incumbents will vow to protect farmland. History has shown that following through on this promise, has been very poor. Thus, my black & white statement.

17. Does the Township need more sports and recreation facilities?

Yes, in Aldergrove!
