A prominent real estate developer with projects in Langley was murdered Saturday in a brazen shooting in Richmond.

Amarjit Singh Sandhu was shot at a strip mall on Steveston Highway at about 6 p.m., according to Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Sandhu owned Sandhill Development Ltd., which had worked on projects in Langley as well as Richmond.

Their most prominent local project was the Elements condo complex in the 20200 block of 66th Avenue.

Sandhu, 56, was taken to hospital after the shooting, but died of his injuries, said Pound.

The shooting appears to have been targeted, Pound said.

“There is an extra element of concern when one chooses to commit this crime in such a bold and brazen manner in a very public setting,” Pound said. “Fortunately, no other individuals were injured.”

Police said the suspect has been described by witnesses as a man in his early to mid 20s, about 6’0”, with a slim build, and wearing a grey or light grey hoodie or coat, medium to dark coloured pants, and possibly a baseball cap.
