A senior found out puddles can be much deeper than they appear after getting stranded Tuesday morning in Fernridge.

Langley Township firefighters were called to the Fernridge mobile home park for a water rescue.

Four fire teams, along with the RCMP and BC Ambulance attended to help a woman stranded in an area of the trailer park typically used to store garbage and resident RVs.

Chris McKenzie, a fellow park resident, said the woman drove to what is normally a grass field and “didn’t realize the amount of water” that had accumulated as she started down the slope.

“She couldn’t stop or didn’t know what to do and eventually, the car just floated out into the lake,” McKenzie recounted.

Her vehicle ended up half submerged. While he said she was shook up, she was okay. Firefighters directed her to stay in her car until they were able to get to her and help her to safety.
