An Edmonton gun enthusiast who tried to bring an illegal weapon through the Aldergrove border crossing has pleaded guilty to three charges.
Christian Alexander Bonilla, 42, has admitted to possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence, illegally importing or exporting a prohibited weapon or ammunition and failing to report in person at a customs office.
The pleas were entered Tuesday in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster.
Five other weapons charges are expected to be stayed following sentencing, which has been scheduled for March.
The incident took place in May 2011 when Bonilla was at the Aldergrove border crossing in Langley, attempting to enter Canada from the United States.
He allegedly told a border officer that a gun found in his vehicle was properly registered, although there was no documentation.
The gun was seized and Bonilla was allowed to return to Edmonton.
Three months after Bonilla’s encounter at the border, RCMP searched his home in Edmonton and seized 70 guns and 100,000 rounds of ammunition.
Police characterized Bonilla as a gun collector who had 75 guns registered in his name.
