Incumbent school trustee Meagan Dykeman is seeking a third term on the Langley Board of Education in the Oct. 20 election.

First elected in 2011, Dykeman currently serves as vice chair of the Langley Board of Education, chair of the Board Policy Committee and is a representative on the BCSTA (British Columbia School Trustees Association) Provincial Council.

“With more rapid changes facing the education system in the next four years and the struggles that come from that, Dykeman believes that strong and committed local representation is more necessary than ever to ensure that the students of Langley continue to benefit from the best educational opportunities possible going forward,” a June 11 press release states.

“She believes that her experience will help continue that success.”

Dykeman is a chicken farmer in Fernridge and holds degrees in governance, law and management and international relations.

If elected, she said she will focus on three pillars — accountability, communication and respect — and will continue to work on building infrastructure for Langley’s growing population, and ensuring Langley students receive the best educational opportunities.

Dykeman said she is proud of what has been accomplished over her last two terms, including implementing web streamed school district meetings, approving four new schools and several new programs, and maintaining good financial management.

In addition to her work on the board, she has also served as chair of the Agricultural Advisory Committee, chair of the Blueberry Cannon Task Force, and has volunteered as a 4-H poultry leader for 10 years.
