A Surrey man is wanted for allegedly impersonating a police officer, in an incident that alarmed people in Brookswood.
On Dec. 2, police were called by a distraught woman who was a passenger in a vehicle being followed by a black Chevrolet Tahoe.
The Tahoe had pulled in behind the victims, a man and a woman, and turned on what appeared to be police emergency lights in the windshield and front grill, said Cpl. Holly Largy, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.
The victims pulled over to the side of the road, and the Tahoe pulled out in front of them in an apparent bid to block their path.
The victims then realized the people in the Tahoe were not real police officers. They sped off, and the Tahoe pursued them from Brookswood to a gas station at the Langley Bypass and Glover Road, where they parked.
The complainant told the suspect police had been called, and the Tahoe left the area.
The victims did not know the man in the Tahoe, Largy said.
Investigators now believe they have identifed the man who was in the Tahoe.
Bryce Scott Telford, a 21-year-old Surrey man, is wanted for using means to impersonate a police officer. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Police have not been able to locate him, said Largy, though they have located and seized the black Tahoe.
“We think he’s gone into hiding,” she said.
According to provincial court records, a Bryce Scott Telford born in 1997 was one of three people charged with trafficking in a controlled substance in 2016 in Maple Ridge. He is currently scheduled to appear for trial in Port Coquitlam Provincial Court in April.
In November, he was charged with uttering threats in Burnaby, and has a court appearance on that matter scheduled for Jan. 25.
