Fassbender not confirming run for Langley City mayor

A former Langley City mayor said he’s been asked if he’ll run, but no decision has been made.

Rumours that Langley City’s former mayor is planning to run again are premature, Peter Fassbender said Monday.

“People have talked to me, they said they think I should consider it,” Fassbender said. But he has not made any decision on whether or not he will run again, he said.

Fassbender is currently working as co-chair of Todd Stone’s campaign for the BC Liberal leadership. Voting for the new Liberal leader will take place from Feb. 1 to 3 next year.

Fassbender previously served as a Langley school trustee, then won a City council seat in 2002. He became mayor in 2005 after Marlene Grinnell retired from the post.

In 2013, he took a leave as mayor to run as a BC Liberal candidate in Surrey-Fleetwood and won a narrow victory. From 2015, he served as minister responsible for TransLink.

He lost his seat in this year’s election to the NDP’s Jagrup Brar.
