Langley City firefighters checked the roof of the Old Yale Bistro after a small fire inside on Thursday.

The Old Yale Bistro in downtown Langley City was hit by a kitchen fire on Thursday afternoon.

At about 3 p.m. Langley City firefighters responded to the restaurant at the corner of Fraser Highway and 204th Street.

They had to break a door to gain access, said City fire chief Rory Thompson.

The fire was knocked down quickly, and firefighters checked the roof to make sure it hadn't spread upwards.

It was unknown what caused the fire.
