Give muscular dystrophy the boot, Langley

The Township of Langley Firefighters’ Charitable Society ( TLFCS ) will be showing its support for Muscular Dystrophy Canada by holding out boots this weekend.

Local fire crews have organized the annual Fill the Boot campaign to raise awareness and funds to help “make muscles move” and are heading out into the community.

On Sept. 19 and 20, firefighters from all seven Township fire halls will be out in the community, boots in hand, to collect donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada.

The boot drive is held each year to raise funds to fight Muscular Dystrophy, a neuromuscular disorder that weakens and wastes away the muscles that control body movement.

On Friday evening and all day Saturday, members of the TLFCS will be in each Township community, in grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops and the streets to encourage the public to help improve quality of life for those living with neuromuscular disorders.

Money raised by Township firefighters will improve the quality of life for those living with neuromuscular disorders by purchasing mobility equipment, providing support services, and funding research which will one day lead to a cure.

The aim of the Township of Langley Firefighters’ Charitable Society is to benefit the citizens firefighters protect as firefighters, through local charitable programs and to assist other charities with similar objectives that operate in the best interest of the community.

The Township of Langley Firefighters’ Charitable Society is a not-for-profit society registered in British Columbia, in the interest of focusing the fundraising and benevolent activities of the Township firefighters.

The society is out with the boot drive only days after hosting its first major fundraiser, Family Fun Day Sept. 14 at Krause Berry Farms.
