Emergency responders closed off 36 Avenue at 204 Street shortly before 5 p.m. on Thursday, after an SUV reportedly sped through the 30 km/h zone at Noel Booth Park and struck two parked vehicles before crashing into a utility pole.

A witness at the scene said she was driving the speed limit in the playground zone at the time of the incident, when the driver of the SUV tried to overtake her on the right shoulder.

The SUV then lost control, and struck the parked vehicles and the pole. The female driver and two passengers got out of the vehicle, and the driver reportedly tried to flee on foot from the scene of the crash, the witness said.

Langley RCMP confirmed these details.

“While the (RCMP) members were there, the driver and the two passengers returned to the scene,” said Cpl. Holly Largy, media relations officer for the Langley RCMP.

The driver — who has her L (learner’s) licence — was ticketed for driving without due care, driving contrary to restrictions of her L licence, and passing on the right, Largy said.

There were no injuries reported.

The crash cut power to the area, but Hydro crews arrived on scene shortly after 5 p.m.
