Langley residents who appreciate good tea, finger sandwiches, and helping the less fortunate gathered Sunday afternoon for the Thank You For Caring event.

The annual tea is also known as the Mayors' Wives Tea, and this year was organized by Jean Schaffer and Debbie Froese, wives of City Mayor Ted Schaffer and Township Mayor Jack Froese.

Jean Schaffer told the crowd that she loves Christmas traditions.

"This event has turned into a tradition for me," she said, noting it is the fifth annual high tea.

The purpose of the fundraiser is to fill the coffers of the Langley Christmas Bureau, specifically its hamper fund.

The money raised makes sure families in need have enough food for a proper Christmas dinner, as well as to get them through the entire holiday season.

"Langley is a community that is accustomed to giving and helping," said master of ceremonies Peter Luongo.
