High volume of calls for burning

Langley Township fire department kept busy by illegal burnings

Langley Township fire department hasn’t been as busy with grass fires as it has in other years, but the department is busy handing out fines for illegal burnings, said Pat Walker, assistant fire chief.

“There is no burning allowed, and that includes backyard fireplaces,” said Walker.

The ticket is $200.

B.C. recorded the driest July on record and fire ratings are not set at “extreme” yet, but they are ranked as “high.”

The fire department is receiving a high volume of complaints about burning, he said.
