Homelessness in Langley has become more visible in the past year

Volunteers are mustering for the homeless count that takes place every three years in Langley and across Metro Vancouver.

The regional homeless count has taken place since 2002 and this year’s count will run on March 7 and 8.

The first night will survey people staying in emergency shelters, transition houses, youth safe houses, and detox facilities.

The second night will try to reach people on the street and staying in the bush.

The counts provide a snapshot of the state of the homeless population in the Lower Mainland. While they can’t locate and survey every individual, the counts give a look at how the homeless population is changing over time, growing or shrinking.

There were 2,777 homeless people counted in Metro Vancouver in 2014, including 92 in Langley.
