Chelsea Trill stands with Sassy, a 20-year-old Arabian mare recovering at Windsong Stables after suffering severe neglect. Trill is holding a fundraiser to help repay the Good Samaritan who came to her aid after a robber stole her rent money.

Chelsea Trill ruffles the mane of the painfully thin 20-year-old Arabian mare as she explains “Sassy” was even skinnier when she first arrived at Windsong Stables.

“She was pretty much bones,” Trill says.

Trill operates an ad hoc horse rescue service at her Langley stables, taking in elderly, starving and neglected animals and nursing them back to health.

Currently, there are five rescues among the horses she raises and boards.

Earlier this month, there was a moment when it looked like she might have to close.

On Sept. 12, she was planning to make a cash deposit of $2,400 to cover rent after attending class at the Abbotsford grad school she attends.

Trill said the instructor asked everyone to leave their purses behind when they went outside for an outdoor exercise.

She returned to find the money had been taken.

Fortunately, a Good Samaritan who sponsors her horse rescue efforts loaned Trill the replacement money.

Still, Trill would like to pay back her rescuer as soon as possible, which is why she is holding an open house and fundraiser this Sunday (Oct. 2) from noon till 5 p.m. at Windsong, which is located at 2282 232 Street.

“We are having pony rides, a bake sale, a silent auction, lots of demonstrators with great products, a cookout, a bottle drive and a huge tack sale,” she said.

“We will have information on horses, rescues and more.”
