“Hey buddy, how do I get out of here?” the 16-year-old asked.

The answer was in the back of an RCMP cruiser because "buddy" was an plainclothes police officer and he recognized the teen as a suspected car thief wanted for the attempted theft of a pickup truck.

The officer was one of several searching for a suspect in the 20000 block of 24 Avenue on Friday night (Aug. 16) after someone tried to steal a pickup truck with a trailer, only to get the trailer wedged against a telephone.

The suspect ran into a trailer park.

Police, including a dog team and helicopter Air One, flooded the area.

After the conversation, the teen was charged with possession of Stolen Property.

The 16 year old Langley youth was also wanted on outstanding arrest warrants.

Supt. Derek Cooke, the Officer in Charge of Langley RCMP Detachment called the suspect "a very prolific young offender who has been extremely active in the Langley area for a number of years.”
