Thieves broke into Langley BMX’s facility in Brookswood, stealing bikes and equipment that allow kids unable to afford gear to take part in the sport.

The non-profit group has a track beside the George Preston Recreation Centre. It was broken into Tuesday morning.

Bikes, helmets and even tent canopies were taken.

“These bikes are the ones that are loaned out to kids who are just trying the sport out for the first time or for those who cannot afford to buy a bike,” said the club’s Bonnie McLean. “We want to make sure everyone has a chance to try this sport even if it’s not in a family’s budget.”

The site has security cameras and industrial locks.

The organization is asking the public to keep an eye out for the stolen items and contact police with any information.
