Stereotype says that guys are dog people and women are cat people.
A new calendar to fundraise for Langley’s animal shelter will turn that idea on its head by highlighting local men who love their cats.
“Cats and guys have become a lot more popular,” said Ildi Hards.
Hards is a cat owner herself and a volunteer for the Langley Animal Protection Society for the last several years.
Now she’s putting together the Cat Dads calendar, the latest fundraiser she’s worked on for the shelter.
The calender project will collect submitted photos of Langley men and their cats.
She’s hoping the final product, with 12 or 13 photos, will appeal to women to buy.
The project’s funds will be aimed at helping LAPS finish up its ISOasis project.
The ISOasis is a facility planned for cats and kittens newly arriving at LAPS, including ones that are sick, injured, or need to be kept in quarantine.
Right now there isn’t much room for quarantined cats at LAPS’ Patti Dale Animal Shelter in Aldergrove.
The facility is being funded by a combination of fundraising and Langley Township money.
The calendar will be one of many projects that will help get it going. To keep costs low, everything on the calendar is being done by volunteers, said Hards.
Photos can be uploaded at catdads.ca.
While men will submit photos, the final pictures for the calendar will be taken with the help of a photographer with a Vancouver-based company.
“I contacted meowbox and they were immediately on board,” said Hards.
The firm sends out packages of new snacks and toys to cat owners who subscribe, so they have something new to do with their cat on a regular basis.
Joseph Cuzzocrea, the community manager with meowbox, will be taking the final photos.
Meowbox has also been helping promote the project through its social media channels.
Cuzzocrea set up a sample photo for the calendar, that featured him and his own cat, Harvey.
The plan is to have the calendar finished for 2017. Hards said they are also looking for sponsors among local businesses who might be interested in advertising with the calendar.
