Langley Chamber chooses new president

Scott Johnston took over as Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce president Tuesday night, taking the reins after Kristine Simpson’s two year term.

Johnston, a lawyer with Campbell Burton McMullan, was formerly the vice president and was elected by acclamation.

Simpson’s term was marked by a major change, the move in the chamber’s offices from Langley City to a new location in Willoughby in a modern office complex. The chamber bought its new offices outright using reserves and will have neither a mortgage nor a dues increase this year.

Johnston thanked Simpson, and said that going forward the chamber will emphasize its shop local campaign, will work on improving communications with its members and advocacy for the business community.

Johnston noted that with the population of Langley expected to double in the next two decades, there will be a number of new challenges for local business in the near future.
