The Langley City bus exchange won't be moving to a new location any time soon.
For many years, it has been located on Logan Avenue adjacent to what was once called the Rainbow Mall. The mall used to be a vibrant shopping centre, at one time home to a Save-On Foods store and Fields.
In more recent years, the anchor tenant was Liquidation World, which shuttered all its stores earlier this year.
Now the mall has just four operating businesses and is about 80 per cent vacant. Its owners reside offshore and have been immune to frequent requests from Langley City officials to do more with the property.
There have been plans made to move the bus exchange to a new location on 203 Street, north of Fraser Highway. It would be closer to many Langley City businesses, although farther away from Kwantlen Polytechnic University and the one-way shopping area.
The new exchange would be to the west of the Cascades Casino property.
However, at a meeting Wednesday, Langley City administrator Francis Cheung said the bus exchange will not relocated any time soon. He said it will be not be built until the property adjacent to it is redeveloped. At that time, the City and TransLink would then be able to enter into negotiations about the property needed for the exchange.
The land is currently owned by Langley Concrete and Tile and is used for storage. Cheung said he is unaware of any plans to develop it.
