The dry weather this summer means the 200th Street water and sewer upgrade project in Langley City is on schedule.
The lack of significant rain allows the joint Metro Vancouver/Langley City project to progress well.
Metro Vancouver is upgrading the regional sanitary sewer system within the City.
The $10 million project, called Carvolth Trunk Sewer No. 2, involves the construction of a new sewer pipe along the right-of-way from Fraser Highway to 57A Avenue, along a portion of 57A, along 200 Street from 57A to Michaud Crescent, then along the BC Hydro right-of-way to 53 Avenue.
The City has partnered with Metro Van to do some upgrading of water, sanitary and storm water utilities that run beneath 200 Street between 50 Avenue and Fraser Highway.
Once the underground work is done, the full width of 200 Street will be repaved from 50 Avenue to Fraser Highway.
The underground work, installing water lines and sewers, should be done by the end of August or early September, said Bob Cheng, Metro Vancouver’s lead senior engineer on the project.
When the crews opened up the ground between Fraser Highway and 53rd Avenues, they didn’t find any surprises that hindered the work.
“The ground was pretty much what we expected,” Cheng said.
The water lines are tied in already. Still to do is the tie in of the sewer lines and one water transmission line.
Bypass measures were put in place so people didn’t experience disruptions when the water lines were tied into the system and will also be in place for any remaining water and sewer tie ins.
“There won’t be service disruptions,” he noted.
Cheng added that the residents of the area may have experiences overnight noise from the pumps and bypass system but there’s been limited overnight construction work.
The project has meant the section of 200th Street and the sidestreets connecting to it have been closed or partially closed to motorists since spring. Paving will be done after the tie ins and is expected to be done next month, depending on the weather.
