Langley group has May 1 event for its kindness campaign

Kindly stop by Vancity Credit Union in Willowbrook on May 1 to learn about the You’ve Gotta Have Friends campaign called Kindness Connects.

The non-profit community group You’ve Gotta Have Friends (YGHF) started the campaign last year to spotlight the value of people being kind to one another and can shift the culture toward being more inclusive.

The group will be at the credit union at 200th Street and Willowbrook Drive from about 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday.

In addition to giving out Kindness Connects stickers, meant to be shared when a person does something kind, the group is hosting a bottle drive. YGHF also has an account (#158) at the Langley Bottle Depot at 20137 Industrial Ave. in Langley City.

The funds from the cans and bottles will help fund another YGHF program, Boppin’ in the Park.

Funding for Boppin’ In The Park has been raised by community members through bottle recycling. To cover this year’s costs for the bands that perform at Boppin’ in the Park, the group is asking the public to help.

On three Friday evenings during summer at Douglas Park, YGHF hosts Boppin’ in the Park, public dances everyone is invited to enjoy. This year the events will be June 19, July 17 and Aug. 21.

YGHF is has an office in McBurney Plaza. The office is open for drop-in Coffee and Conversation Wednesday and Friday afternoons 2 to 4 p.m.

As well, there’s also a Supper Club, Book Club, Breakfast with Friends and the Senior Moments program.
