Three more Langley RCMP officers have joined Alexa’s Team, a group honoured for taking drunk drivers off the roads.
The group is named for Alexa Middalaer, a young girl who was killed by a drunk driver in 2008 while feeding a horse with her aunt by the side of the road in Delta.
The group has grown from 26 officers in 2008 to more than 2,000 RCMP and municipal officers as of this year.
Those honoured in the Lower Mainland this year include Const. Naresh Prashad, Const. Spencer Kuehn, and Const. Anton Schupp. Kuehn and Schupp are both with Langley RCMP Traffic Services.
“To know that our daughter Alexa is a source of inspiration to these committed men and women is humbling, and their dedication to go above and beyond is very meaningful to the Middelaer family,” said Alexa’s mother Laurel Middelaer. “Thank you for this sunshine in our lives. Well done Alexa’s Team 2016.”
“Every impaired driver removed from our roadways makes our communities safer,” Supt. Davis Wendell, officer in charge of RCMP E Division Traffic Services. “With their ongoing actions, the members of Alexa’s Team have meaningfully contributed to improving everyone’s safety.”
The team is supported by ICBC and MADD Canada.
Since 2008 Alexa’s Team members have processed more than 79,379 impaired driving sanctions for alcohol and drug related driving offences.
