Residents of Langley who want to have their say on the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion can sign up to be intervenors at upcoming public hearings.
The National Energy Board (NEB) will be holding hearings about the controversial pipeline, which Kinder Morgan wants to increase in scope to almost triple its current oil pumping capacity.
The pipeline runs from near Edmonton through B.C., straight through Northern Langley, and on to a refinery in Burnaby.
The deadline to apply as an intervenor is noon on Feb. 12.
According to the NEB’s website, anyone with a direct interest in the pipeline route, including one affecting property or employment, can apply. Those with specialist knowledge may also be able to apply.
The pipeline’s route may shift, and Kinder Morgan is considering a couple of alterations through Langley. One of those would take the pipeline under farmlands in the Salmon River floodplain, and bring it closer to Fort Langley than its present course.
Another proposed route would go somewhat farther west, but then veer north through what is currently the Redwoods Golf Course, land owned by the Township and intended to eventually become parkland.

There will be online and teleconference training sessions on how to complete the forms, including on Jan. 22, 27, and 28.
