The new 232nd Street overpass opened Monday.
It will allow an extension of the Rawlison Rail Siding to the west.
The construction also included the creation of a new roundabout at 232nd Street and 72nd Avenue.
It will allow for cars, cyclists, and pedestrians to cross the new two-lane overpass without waiting for trains, and train whistling will be elimianted over almost five kilometres stretching between Glover Road and River Road.
Construction is expected to continue to the end of April around the overpass.
The controversial Mufford-Glover Road overpass is expected to be finished in August, and the 196th Street overpass sometime in May, but the completion date will be weather-dependent.
Another bridge in Langley will be completed this week, if the weather cooperates.
The Nicomekl River bridge on 56th Avenue has been closed for months, and was meant to have been finished by Jan. 31. A theft of custom-made steel components for the underside of the bridge delayed reconstruction.
The newest expected completion date is March 7, said Duane Odenbach, Township project engineer. If it’s too wet or cold to pave, the bridge might not be open in time. If the rain lets up at least by Thursday and Friday, things should still move on schedule.
“The only issue is the weather,†he said.
The $24 million new highway overpass at 248th Street is also expected to be opened this spring.
