In their past two games, both defensive struggles, the Langley Stampers’ offence was somewhat quiet.
Sunday against the Comox Valley Raiders, Langley Minor Football’s midget squad played up to its potential in the familiar surroundings of McLeod Stadium.
Playing on home turf, the Stampeders controlled every facet of the game in a 43-0 victory, to improve their record to 3-1.
The first quarter belonged to the Stamps, who put together three drives resulting in touchdowns.
The first started from their 35 yard line, and ended with a 30 yard pass completion by quarterback Devante Wilson to receiver Yunjal Boo.
The second touchdown, by Devin Dacosta, completed a 54 yard drive.
The final scoring play of the first stanza was a 40 yard drive with Riley Carter carrying the pigskin into the Raiders’ end zone.
Simon Odong opened the scoring for the home team in the second quarter.
Three defensive stands resulted in the Stamps getting golden opportunities in the Raiders end of the field, on turnovers.
An 11 yard toss to Yunjal Boo followed by a two yard scamper by Decosta rounded out the first half of action as the Stamps carried a huge 40-0 lead into the halftime break.
A turnover on a bad snap by the Raiders resulted in Langley putting together a drive which resulted in a field goal by the kicker Mustafa Al-Mashhadani in the third quarter.
After that, an interception that was run into the end zone for an apparent Stamps’ touchdown in the final frame was negated by two blocking from the rear calls.
Langley’s defence, although sometimes guilty of taking ill advised penalties has played strongly throughout the season, allowing only one touchdown in their first four games.
Next up for the Stamps is a visit to Duncan on Sunday, where they will play the host Cowichan Timbermen.
