Donors made more than 400 kids all snug in their beds with new Christmas pajamas.
The second year of the Jammie Drive brought in 436 pairs of PJs which were delivered mid-December to the Langley Christmas Bureau for the children of disadvantaged families.
On Dec. 6 and 7 a squad of young pajama-ed volunteers were outside the Langley Walmart collecting donations of jammies.
“Walmart was awesome,†said jammie fairy Mary Lou Robertson. “The Langley community pulled together to support the Jammie Drive. There was a lot of energy and Christmas music got everyone in the spirit for giving.â€
Robertson’s Langley RCMP and HealthLinkBC coworkers contributed 116 pairs while shoppers boosted those numbers to the final tally of 436.
Some cash donations were received and those funds were used to buy PJs with several local stores giving the Jammie Drive dollar-stretching discounts.
This is the second year for the Jammie Drive with last year’s PJs split between a Surrey charity and Langley’s Christmas Bureau.
Robertson said the impetus for the Jammie Drive is giving kids the warm feeling of a cozy pair of new pajamas for the holidays, a treasured memory for many.
The Christmas bureau distributed gifts and the PJs to families on Toy Depot Days Dec. 15-17 and is now closed for another holiday season.
Any donations not distributed or any donations received after Toy Depot Days are squirreled away for next Christmas when the volunteer-run Christmas bureau returns to make holidays brighter.
Last year the bureau helped more than 800 families with more than 1,600 children.
