Limit lawn watering, City urges

If and when drier weather arrives in the Lower Mainland Langley City residents are being asked to limit watering to an inch a week

Eventually, there’s bound to come a time when it stops raining.

If and when that day arrives, and residents are ready to start watering their lawns, the City of Langley is hoping they will do so sparingly.

“Water is a precious resource and we’d like to make sure we treat it properly,” said City engineer Gary Vlieg.

Vlieg set out a few guidelines for responsible watering at Monday’s City Council meeting, noting that lawns require only about one inch (or two and a half centimetres) of water per week.

To determine how much sprinkler time that entails, he suggests putting out an empty tuna or salmon can to see how long it takes to fill.
