Making friends in Langley is made easy with an upcoming community Christmas party hosted by You’ve Gotta Have Friends on Friday afternoon.

The public is invited to stop by the Timms Community Centre on Friday, Dec. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. for refreshments, live entertainment, raffle prizes, and the Community Builder Awards.

“It’s a good way to meet people,” said Pat Weibelzahl, You’ve Gotta Have Friends coordinator.

The event is free of charge and everybody is invited.

Local “unsung heroes” will be recognized with the Community Builder Awards that include categories for individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations.

Weibelzahl explained the awards are for those in the community who “foster a sense of inclusion and belonging.”

“There’s a lot of people who do things but are not recognized – they do them in a quiet way, so we notice people who are making a difference in a quiet way.”

You’ve Gotta Have Friends has been around for 12 years, and the organization hosts a variety of monthly events such as a supper club, breakfast with friends, and book club.

“There’s a lot of people looking for connection in community. There’s people who are isolated, alone, and a lot of people have a good life but still like to connect with new people,” added Weibelzahl.
