Most Langley Youth Week events free

Youth Week is a province-wide celebration May 1 to 7, and the Langleys both offer special events for young people.

City

• Youth Week Kick Off Party: May 1, 7:30 to 9 p.m., at Southgate Church parking lot, 5501 204th St., for ages 12-18.

• BBQ and Entertainment: May 2, 3 to 6 p.m., Douglas Park. Enjoy a hot dog and some fun games – chess, checkers and bola-ball – and musical entertainment. For ages 12-18.

• Dodgeball Game: May 4 @ 7 to 9 p.m., Nicomekl Elementary, 20050 53rd Ave. In addition to the game, there are prizes for Best Team Costume and a draw for an Adidas bag full of swag. Free for ages 12-18 years, but is also a family friendly event. Friends and family welcome for $2 per person.

• So You Think You Can Bowl?!: May 5, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Willowbrook Lanes, 6350 196 St. Free for ages 12-18. Space limited, reserve a spot at 604-514-2940. Youth compete against Langley City Councillors. Pizza and drinks and draw prizes.

• Art Festival: May 7, 5 to 7 p.m., at Frostings Cupcakery, 20411 Fraser Hwy. View works by local youth. Treats, live music and draw prizes. Open to the public.

Township

• Grade 6 & 7 Dance: May 1, 7 to 10 p.m., Walnut Grove Community Centre, 8889 Walnut Grove Dr., $7/$9. Advance tickets: 604-882-0408 or www.tol.ca.

• Sound Off poetry slam: May 2, 7 to 8:30 p.m., lelém arts and cultural café, 100-23285 Billy Brown Rd. in Fort Langley. $5 to participate or free to watch. Register in advance: RecExpress.ca, any Township rec centre, or 604-532-3536.

• Youth Badminton Tourney: May 2, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Walnut Grove Community Centre, $5/team.

• Southside Luau: May 2, 7 to 10 p.m., $2, W.C. Blair Recreation Centre. A pool party includes a DJ on the pool deck, a barbecue and prizes. Youth can get a ride from the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Centre to the luau and back again (registration required). Call 604-856-2899 in advance.

• Minute to Win It!: May 4, 3:30 to 5 p.m., Walnut Grove Community Centre, $2. Info: 604-882-0408.

• Random Acts of Kindness: May 5, 3:30 to 5 p.m., Walnut Grove Community Centre. Free. Participants will show random acts of kindness around Walnut Grove.

• Youth Week Chill & Grill: May 6, 3:30 to 5 p.m., Aldergrove Athletic Park, 29th Avenue and 267B Street. Listen to music, hang with your friends, and enjoy a spring barbecue.

• 3 on 3 B-Ball Tourney: May 6, 6:30 to 10 p.m., Walnut Grove Community Centre. $6/team. Prizes for this round robin tournament. Info: 604-882-0408.

• Skate Park Jam: May 7, 3 to 5 p.m., Walnut Grove Community Centre. Music, skate demonstrations, free food and prizes.
