New DriveBC webcam live at Aldergrove

Latest device gives lineup times, and road and weather conditions

A new DriveBC camera has gone live in Aldergrove.

The camera will give travelers heading to the Aldergrove/Lynden border a real-time snapshot of traffic volumes, as well as road and weather conditions.

This webcam can be seen on the DriveBC website here.

With views to the north and south, the new webcam gives travellers a good view of traffic heading to and from the Aldergrove/Lynden border crossing, helping those going to the border to choose which crossing to use, thus saving them time.

The webcam adds to two existing webcams on Highway 13 (264 Street) at 0 Avenue, looking north and south, and brings the total number of DriveBC web cameras with an eye on border traffic to 13.

Fort Langley-Aldergrove MLA Rich Coleman welcomed the news, and said that at the click of a button, the new webcam will help people find out which crossings have the heaviest traffic, and enable them "to plan a faster, safer route."

Last summer, the federal and provincial government expanded the Advanced Traveller Information System to Aldergrove and the Huntingdon crossing in Abbotsford. A new sign was erected on Highway 1 in Surrey.

Wait times can also be viewed here.

The $2.6 million project is being shared equally between the two senior governments.
