New Langley school buses coming

The Langley School District will receive $232,944 for the purchase of two new school buses.

As part of the fleet renewal program, 22 districts have been allocated $9 million for 76 new buses next spring.

The province uses a bulk buying process to get 10-15 per cent lower than regular prices.

This is the fourth year the Ministry of Education has worked with the Association of School Transportation Services of B.C. to procure buses in this way.

Depending on passenger size, buses can only be used for 10-15 years or 250,000 to 400,000 kilometres. Student transportation costs $90 million annually.

“Safety is the number one concern when transporting our students to and from school,” said Fort Langley-Aldergrove MLA Rich Coleman.
