Delta police say a pedestrian is dead following an accident in Ladner Thursday evening.

The incident happened around 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28 near Ladner Trunk Road and Harvest Drive. Police say two pedestrians were walking eastbound in the 5800 block of Ladner Trunk Road on the north side of the road when one of them began crossing Ladner Trunk Road heading southbound.

“Unfortunately, it appears he tripped on the median and fell into the path of eastbound traffic. He was then struck by a vehicle,” Acting-Insp. Ryan Hall, who oversees traffic services for the Delta Police Department, said in a press release.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene, and is cooperating the investigation, which is being by the DPD’s traffic unit.

Emergency Health Services arrived to scene first and confirmed the man was dead before police arrived.

Police say the deceased is a Delta resident in his thirties. Next of kin notifications were conducted by police Thursday night and victim services are offering support to his family.

Any witnesses to this incident who haven’t yet spoken with police are asked to call 604-946-4411 and quote file number 19-27272.

It is the third pedestrian fatality in the region in as many days.

First, an 88-year-old woman was killed in a Burnaby crash Wednesday afternoon around 1:15 p.m. near the intersection of Willingdon Avenue and Beresford Street.

Then on Thursday morning, a woman was struck and killed crossing the street around 5 a.m. in Abbotsford.
