The Canada Day celebration at Willoughby Community Park and the Langley Events Centre had a little bit of everything.

For hockey fans, an appearance from Langley Rivermen alum Marcus Vela, who was recently selected by the San Jose Shark at the NHL Entry Draft. Vela, who is getting ready to play NCAA Div. 1 hockey for the University of New Hampshire starting next fall, was at the park to meet fans, sign autographs, and promote his former junior A team.

For music enthusiasts, the eclectic lineup included Danielle Marie, Her Brothers, Cash Crawford, Canada Day Ceremony, Chris Buck Band, Washboard Union, King & Cash, Robyn & Ryleigh, Raquel Cole and Rod Black.

For the kids, there was an entire area set up chock-full of activities, highlighted by a bouncy area.

For folks who just can’t get enough of Christmas, they could create displays at the Williams Park Magic of Christmas display.

And for sun lovers, there certainly was a lot of that.

As well, funds raised by an onsite barbecue were earmarked for Basics for Babies, founded and is overseen by JRFM, and done through the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society to assist families coping with the challenges of raising a young infant by providing them with needed food, formula and diapers.
